William will do, says MP

WHEN Selayang MP William Leong greeted Rawang folks during a recent site visit, he told them to “Just call me William!”

Leong and Rawang assemblyman Gan Pei Nei visited three morning markets at Kampung Sungai Terentang, Rawang town and Bandar Country Heights.

“We don’t want people to call us YB,” Gan, who escorted Leong during the walkabout, said.

Thanks a lot: Gan (second from left) and Leong (with loudhailer) speaking to the residents during their walkabout.

Leong added that he chose not to be called by his official title so that people would not feel uncomfortable when they sought his help.

“We want to treat residents like friends and not place a barrier between the assemblyman, MP and the people,” he said.

At the market, both Leong and Gan informed residents of their new service centre at Taman Bersatu.

At the Kampung Sungai Terentang morning market, vegetable trader Yap Mooi, 62, said she and her mother Chan Loy, 82, had been there for five years and had approached the former assemblyman about their security issues but no action was taken.

“I shook hands with Gan and told her my problems and she took time to listen. I cannot make any judgements on Gan’s work but will see whether our issues are solved,” she said.
